School Run Style: Makeup tips for #mumsontherun

As many mums know the morning routine can mean rushing out the door with only a glance in the mirror for yourself. Getting everyone ready to go, while getting yourself feeling polished and ready for your own day is really tricky. We have some hints of really easy ways to give yourself a fresh and natural makeup look without it taking forever…grab 5 minutes and give it a go!

Step 1: Avoid a full foundation if you are in a rush as you might get tide marks if you don’t blend it carefully. Start with clean, bare, moisturised skin and simply apply some creamy peach-toned concealer to under eye darkness, and ReCover Correct & Conceal Red to any blotchiness around the nose, or any redness that can come after you’ve had a blemish, as this will immediately even out your tone and help create the illusion of a base. Blend outwards with your fingers for a seamless finish.

Step 2: Define eyebrows with a comb-through gel product like Benefit’s new Gimme Brow which gives you a bit of polish and frames your face but won’t be too heavy. It can also draw focus away from your eyes if you don't have time to put on any eye makeup.

Step 3: If you don’t feel dressed without some mascara on, choose a smudge proof one to avoid panda eyes when the inevitable 2pm slump sets in;  Lancome Definicils is a favourite in the team. If your lashes are already dark and you want some extra definition instead, eye definer sticks are a good choice. A great one is Suratt Smoky Eye Baton in Cendres, which is ashy taupe shade, lined along your top lash line then smudged with a ring finger.

Step 4: a pop of blush is fab for waking up tired skin. Creams are perfect when you are short on time and a swipe of a stick couldn’t be any easier; simply blend with fingers on the ‘apples’ of your cheeks (smile into the mirror and find the fullest part of your cheek). Try Nars the Multiple in Riviera  if you like a more shimmery finish, or Kevin Aucoin Cheek Colour in Tansoleil is a lovely peachy tone, is creamy to apply, blends well and stays place.

Step 5: Add a hint of lip colour with a lip balm or sheer lipstick. These don’t have the best staying power so you may need to reapply later, BUT you can apply one handed whilst handing out toast to small people with the other hand. A classic is Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm.  If your lipstick always smudges or smears then try a tint such as Becca Beach Tint, which stays put really well.

Hopefully this gives you some inspiration for a morning supermum makeup look! If you have any questions on this subject then let us know on our Facebook page.

Here is our top three  #mumontherun tips and tricks on getting out of the house in one piece and on time, from the busy mamas here in the ReCover office…

  1. Bags of Preparation:  Get everyone’s bags ready the night before and put them by the front door (nursery bags, school bags, your work bags plus everyone’s shoes). Same goes for outfits, lay them all out ready the night before to save on arguments if your toddler wants to be dressed as a ballerina for the day.
  2. Get Ahead of the Game: If you can, get up and dressed before your kids, as then you can focus on helping them to dress and get ready, without trying to extract your mascara from the grip of the baby.
  3. Sound the Alarm. Set your phone alarm for a beeping sound for 2 minutes before you need to be out of the door and on your way, and before long they will be saying ‘come on Mummy, the alarm has rung!’.

Oh, and finaly wet wipes! Everywhere. For everything. Indispensable to any mum!
