How to use cover make up on legs

Bare leg season is almost upon us, and months of opaques and trousers may mean you aren’t as confident about baring your legs as you’d like to be.

The good news is, you can fake ‘perfect’ pins with a little make up knowhow, even if you have something you’d really like to hide. Here are our top 3 tips on getting a natural, silky-stocking veneer on bare legs this Spring/Summer…

1. Blood flow is key

It may feel most natural to raise your leg up when applying body makeup, however if you do this the colour of your legs will likely change. This is because legs have strong blood flow in them, and the natural colour of the legs is altered if you raise them. You will then have trouble making the legs look natural when they are lowered. If it is tricky for you to reach the area you are working on standing up, then you can sit, or raise the legs, but remember to lower them often as you apply to check the colour works. If you have specific area to cover, see points 2 and 3 below, otherwise the concealed area could stand ‘proud’ of the skin and be noticeably opaque.

2. Apply a soft-focus effect all over

Our top tip to try is a pump of ReCover Correct & Conceal Red mixed with a blob of your favourite body lotion. Apply to legs for a sheen that will help neutralise any mottled skin or the dreaded ‘corned beef’ look.

3. Colour correction is the key to covering a specific issue

If you have a specific area to cover (such as a birthmark, scar or tattoo) applying a ‘soft-focus’ sheen as described above will help to give an natural-looking background to work on. Then, sit or stand normally, feet on the floor, and assess the colours you’d like to correct in your skin in a mirror. If it is a purply bruise then use a peachy-toned concealer, or if it is a red birthmark use a waxy, yellow-toned concealer. When you’ve corrected the area, blend and ‘feather’ gently outwards, keeping tightly within the boundaries of what you are covering- a common mistake is to blend outwards more and more meaning you end up taking the colour correction outside the area where it is needed.
